My name is Helen Stockton and I am an experienced, competent and reliable freelance writer and poet working across a range of genres, with work published nationally and locally.

I have been a qualified teacher of adults since 2000, and teach, mentor and facilitate writing for wellbeing sessions, for different organisations as well as privately. I work both face to face and using a variety of on-line platforms. My writing for wellbeing sessions are carefully planned and thoughtfully delivered in a professional and caring way. In my teaching and mentoring I aim to offer a skills-based approach with constructive feedback and a sense of humour that keeps writing fun.

Humour is also deployed in the talks I give to groups on a range of subjects. I aim to be entertaining!

I hold an MA in Literature and am a PhD student with the University of Lancaster researching the experience of writing for wellbeing in palliative care.

I have two adult children and two Border Terriers, Teddy and Bear. I enjoy country walking, gardening, trips in our motorhome, reading and belonging to a book group, plus the odd glass of wine with friends.

I am an enthusiast for words and writing and I am a keen advocate of good quality teaching and learning. I am always looking to update and improve my skills and belong to the following organisations:

  • National Association of Writers in Education
  • Lapidus
  • Society of Authors
  • Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading

I have been DBS checked and registered with the update service.
